CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background to the Study

Today, television has become a companion to a greater number of people. The television that one could watch various programmes. For instance as stated by Lawrence (2004). The transmission of visual images of morning and stationary objects, generally with accompanying sound as electromagnetic waves and the reconvention of received waves into visual images is what qualifies the term television.

According to Okunna (2001) television is an electronic apparatus that receives electromagnetic waves and display the reconverted images on a screen.

The integrated audible and visible content of the electromagnetic waves received and converted by such apparatus. Television presents a complex phenomenon that has become ubiquitous feature of our modern world. It is a multifaceted apparatus.

Most simply, it is a technological process an electronic devices, a system of distributing images.

Television aesthetics is a recent innovation that has been created by television programme designers. It involves close analysis and evaluation of the form and style of television artworks.

The term television aesthetics has become increasingly visible in the field of television studies since the early 2000s. It is used primarily to denote and demarcate both a particular attitude to the television medium, and a distinctive approach in the study of television programmes.

Generally, scholars working comfortably under its aegis to take the attitude that television has the potential of artistic integrity. television programmes as worthy of the kind of study that closely examine aspect of style.

Indeed to some extent, quite reasonably, television aesthetics has become shorthand for a thoughtful reflective and respectful consideration of texts stylistic qualities.

Further, in an important sense, the term aesthetics functions as a signifier of difference and distinctive within the field of television studies, wherein approach that focus on sociological, ideological and broader cultural matters, but with aesthetic evaluation. To situate one’s work with television aesthetic is to distinguish that work from these previous approaches. The term aesthetic takes on a declaratives function.

 

 

1.2 Statement of the problem 

From the perspective of television studies, it is hard to imagine reclaiming the original meaning given the welter of connotations that envelops the term Ebola virus today. There is an urgent need to sift the divergent meaning for aesthetic currently, in television studies to limit usage in the interest of clarity.

Today, there are unacknowledged tension between the adjectival form of aesthetic used in formations such as aesthetic attitude, aesthetic object and aesthetic category. Aesthetic analysis and public perception of NTA’S awareness programme on the spread of Ebola virus remain a strange issues to most television viewers. Most of these viewers have not attached importance on the term aesthetics. Even if it is done, most of them do not exactly know what aesthetics implies.

Since aesthetic analysis and public perception of NTA’S Awareness programme on the spread of Ebola Virus is not yet known.

There is need to ask, what is the public perception on NTA’S Awareness programme on the spread of Ebola Virus?

1.3 Objectives of the study

The objectives of the study are to:

  1. find out the level of aesthetics usage by NTA’S on health matters
  2. examine the public perception of NTA’S campaign on the spread of Ebola Virus
  3. find out the elements employed to bring aesthetic on NTA’S programme on the spread of Ebola Virus
  4. has public been properly sensitized on Ebola Awareness on NTA’S
  5. Is aesthetics element lacking on NTA’S Awareness programme of Ebola Virus.

1.4 Research Questions

Research question formulated to guide the studies were:

  1. What is the level of aesthetics usage by NTA’S on health matters?
  2. How could public perception of NTA’S viewers on the spread of Ebola Virus be examined?
  3. How aesthetics element is lacking on NTA’S awareness programme on Ebola Virus?
  4. How public has been properly sensitized on Ebola awareness on NTA’S?
  5. What are the elements employed to bring aesthetics on NTA’S production on the spread of Ebola Virus?

1.5 Research Hypotheses

The research shall be done in these content using null statements:

1  H1:- the reception of public on Ebola awareness on NTA is positive.

Ho –the perception of public on Ebola awareness on NTA is not positive.

2  H1 – there is aesthetics on NTA Ebola awareness

Ho –there is no aesthetics on NTA Ebola awareness
