Motorcycle road accidents have a worldwide occurrence. Their increasing rates can be attributed to modernization and increase numbers of motorcycle in our society. Approximately half of fatal motor cycle crashes involves motor vehicle because motorcyclist failure to see motor cycle in the traffic until it is too late.

The road traffic estimated that the number of accident in the motorcycle in a year 2013 is more than the number of accident in 2015 respectively. The performance of motorcycle often have excessive performance capability including specially rapid acceleration and top motorcycle are unenclosed leaving riders un –incredible to contact with hard road surface. This warning a helmet as well as protective clothing is so important. Helmets are principal counter measure for reducing crash related head injuries, the leading cause of death among u helmeted riders.

1.2     STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The idea of reducing the rates of motorcycle road accident may be obvious, but the realization may not meet especially for human life. This is view of the fact that there is still much to be done in the area of motorcycle care. Accordingly, this project seeks to identify the trend and the seasonal movements (seasonal variation) of incident occurred for easy interpretation to be made the problem is concerned with only motorcycle.

1.3     OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

  1. To study the number of reported cases of motorcycle road accident in divisional police headquater, Uyo.
  2. To plot the data and hence fit a trend to the data by using:

(a)     Least square equation method

(b)     Moving average method

  1. To check the seasonal movement or seasonal variation in motorcycle road incident.
  2. To establish a forecast motel.

1.4     THEORETICAL BACKGROUND

The theoretical background of this research lies in the fact that majority of the accident were caused by lack of formal motorcycle riding training and abuse of alcohol. This research will enable me to determine the fact by using appropriate statistical measure. (Time Series Analysis).

1.5     STATEMENT OF HYPOTHESIS

For this research study, time series will be used to find the trend as well as seasonal movement or seasonal variation in the motorcycle road as such no hypothesis will be tested.

1.6     ASSUMPTION

It is assumed that the majority of accidents reported cases to the different divisional police office are documented as happed. That the data collected recorded are unbiasment.

1.7     THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
