CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Employee’s motivation has always been a problem for leaders and managers. unmotivated employee’s likely spend little or no effort in their jobs and avoid workplace as much as possible, exit the organization if given the opportunity and produce low quality work. On the other hand, employees who feels motivated at work are likely to be persistent, creative and productive turning out high quality work that they willingly undertake. In reality, every employee has different ways to become motivated. Employers need to get to know their employees very well and use different tactics to motivate each of them based on their personal want and needs.

motivation is derived from the word motive’s which means needs, desire, wants, or drives  within the individuals. it is the process of stimulating  people’s behavior could be; desire for money, success, recognition, job satisfaction, Term-work. one of the most important function of management is to create  willingness amongst the employees to perform in the best of their abilities.

According to Grifton (2007), motivation is the set of farce  that causes people to behave in different ways.

Motivation is operationally defined as the inner faces that  drives organizational goals and objectives. motivation entails understanding  the fundamental urge, drive and desire of every worker in the organization  and guaranteeing  them such things that motivate them, for example: provision of financial incentives, personal accomplishment, Recognition, Grow and advancement. so motivation is an internal drive that satisfies an unsatisfied need.

1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Over the years, managers in various organizations in the country have been faced with various motivational problems in terms of managing the organization  for effective and efficient performance of it employees.

And the related problems faced by organization are as a result of lack of effective motivational  tools such as; no good working condition, poor pay package, in effective decision making, lack of incentives, little or no human relationship amonys the workers, no fringe benefit in effective reward system, performance appraisal, creative flexibility. Inability of managers to make good policy that will regulate all these activities to enhance organizational growth has form the basic for this research.

If all these problems identifiedcan be resolved, organizations will be able to manage the effect of motivation on organizational performance.

1.3 OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

The general objective of the study is derived from the above statement of the problem on the effect of the motivation on organizational performance. The examined objectives are as follows;

  1. To examine the effect of unmotivated employee on the organizational performance in Anchor insurance company.
  2. To identify the impact incentives on organizational performance in Anchor insurance company.
  • To investigate the influence of fringe benefit on the employee of Anchor insurance company.

iii To determine how good working condition improves on organizational performance.

  1. To know how manager make policies and regulate them to motivate employees in Anchor insurance company.
