ACCOUNTING INFORMATION SYSTEM AS AN AID
TO DECISION MAKING
(A CASE STUDY OF FIRST BANK OF NIGERIA PLC 2010-2019)

ABSTRACT

This study investigates the Accounting Information system as an aid to decision making with particular reference to First Bank of Nigeria Plc as a case study. This was for the purpose of determining the role, needs and uses of accounting information system in management decision, the study also investigate Accounting Information areas, strategies that could be used in solving ailing problem facing management in a bank. The study assesses the depth of Accounting Information and also intends to highlight the major problem and challenges affecting the quality of accounting information. To achieve the objective of the study, descriptive and exploratory research design was adopted for the study. Data used for the study was both primary and secondary data, data from financial statement of the bank were used in testing the hypothesis drawn for the study and questionnaire administered were used in answering the research questions. In testing the hypothesis drawn for the study, Pearson Product Moment Correlation analysis were applied. Finding reveal that there is a significant relationship between the use of accounting information system and management decision making in terms of property, plant and equipment and Profit After Tax, it is also revealed that accounting information such as management accounting information help management to ensure that resources are obtained and used effectively and efficiently in attaining the goals of the bank. It therefore concludes that for a business to grow and survive, they should adopt and apply accounting information for effective management decision making and it therefore recommend that professional accountant should be employed in First Bank to enable management make use of concise and timely accounting information for decision making and finally accounting information should be prepared in compliance with International Financial Reporting Standard Principle (IFRS).
