ABSTRACT

This project aimed at examining AKBC radio programme “Afe Mbono” and cultural Sensitization in Ikot Ekpene LGA. To achieve the aim of this research work the following objectives were raised: to ascertain the extent to which Ikot Ekpene people are exposed to AKBC radio programme “Afe Mbono”, to ascertain the people’s perception of the programme “Afe Mbono” and cultural sensitization in Ikot Ekpene. To fulfill this objective, research questions were raise. A survey research design was used for the study and cluster sampling method was used to categorized the respondents based on their clan. The simple random sampling technique was adopted in the administration of the questionnaires to 375 respondents. To ascertain the validity and reliability of the questionnaire a pilot study was conducted and it was proven valid and reliable for data collection. Data collected for this study were analyzed by using simple percentages and presented in frequency tables. The findings revealed that majority of Ikot Ekpene people are exposed to AKBC radio programme “Afe Mbono”, the people’s perception about the radio programme “Afe Mbono” and cultural sensitization are informing, educating and interesting and that the programme “Afe Mbono” greatly influence the cultural sensitivity of Ikot Ekpene people, especially in the aspect of language, dressing, cultural display and festival.The study concludes that the people of Ikot Ekpene are exposed to the AKBC radio programme “Afe Mbono” and the programme has influence them positively in the areas of language, dressing and cultural display. The study recommends that the producers should continue creating awareness about the programme, to retain the listeners and also attract more listeners. Finally, emphasis should be laid on the dressing aspect as a number of youths in the Area still dress indecently and the time allotted for the programme should be extended to 45 minutes as the current 30 minutes seem inadequate and less efficient.
