ABSTRACT

This study critically examined some of the justification for the assessment of pension scheme as part of its values that determined public servants productivity and pensioners welfare in the Ministry of Environmental and Mineral Resources in Akwa Ibom State. Three hypothesis were formulated based on the objectives of the study and they are stated thus: that workers productivity is a function of a good pension scheme and that the method used in running pension scheme is directly affecting workers productivity; that delay in policy implementation is one of difficulties associated with pension scheme. The main objective of this was to assess pension scheme on workers’ productivity, to examine the effect of pension scheme on the average Akwa Ibom State Civil Servant, to determine the method involving pension scheme are run and to also ascertain the difficulties associated with the scheme in Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources and the methodology employed to achieve these objectives was carried out through primary source of information, the primary source involved field survey that consists of administering questionnaire. The population used in this study is 150 and Taro Yamane formular was used to get the sample size of ninety three (93). Simple random sampling method was used in administering the questionnaire. The data collected was analysed statistically in form of a tabular presentation. In summary, the finding reveals that pension scheme in Akwa Ibom State Civil Service is in place and in conclusion, the study reveals that its aim has not been effectively carried out. Therefore, it is recommended that government and pension operators should put more effort in making sure that pension purpose is achieved for the betterment of the workers whose life after retirement is very important.
