Abstract

This research work examined the challenges of human resource outsourcing in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra state (2007-2016). Outsourcing has become an increasingly dominant preference for organisations seeking to focus on core competences, reduce operating costs and enhance service deliveries. The data used in this study was collected from both primary and secondary sources. Resource-Based View Theory as postulated by Burger Wernerfelt in 1984 served as a guide to the study. The objectives of the study were to ascertain the status of recognition of staff needs due to outsourcing in the form of ICT in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. To ascertain if Nnamdi Azikiwe University has fewer choices in selecting benefits for its institution and to determine various ways of addressing the challenges of recruitment in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. The study adopted simple percentage, tables and chi-square statistical analysis. The data analysis revealed that: Nnamadi Azikiwe University engages the services of outsourced personnel. There is evidence that outsourcing of human resources is the strategy by which an organization concentrates more on their core competencies and key businesses. It was found that outsourcing has help organization aims at increasing productivity by enhancing in turns on investment and achieving economies of scale. There are still some challenges facing outsourcing notwithstanding its benefits. Based on these findings, the study recommended that the efforts should be made in sustaining the capacity building of the public servants and that the university should engage in the training and development of its staff in ICT and ameliorate the high quest for outsource.
