ABSTRACT

In this era of new millennium development goal and the current tends of Nigeria education efforts have been made year back to eradicate poor performance of pupils at primary school levels, since it is the basic education of Nigeria education. This project therefore discusses the introductory view of primary school continuous assessment techniques and its background. It also dedicates more in the techniques of continuous assessment through literature review in chapter three which the researcher went to the field with some instrument use. Chapter four also showed up in which researcher discusses and analysis the findings. The project gives summary in chapter five with conclusion and recommendations.

CHAPTER ONE

1.0   INTRODUCTION

Assessment is an integral part of teaching and learning process, hence the teacher should be involved in the final decision making on students learning outcomes. It also becomes more valid and indicative of the students over all learning ability.

Effective administration guides the teacher preparation, innovation and implementation to attain the optional level of learning outcomes.

A proper use of continuous assessment procedure elimination. It provides guidance function during teaching and learning process.

Continuous assessment has been put in place at all levels of the Nigeria education system. However, it is doubtful of assessment is done appropriately at any level practically, it is supposed to be an integral part of the examination package for the term or session being part of the educator, package it should ideally be administered and processed like examination of the end of the term session.

1.1   BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The focus of the study is an techniques of continuous assessment which will help teacher to consider and understand the importance of assessment.

The introduction of continuous assessment as a component of evaluation process in Nigeria education system is a hall mark in the nations bid toward enhancement of education similarly certificate was based on external public summative evaluation at the end of the learner’s course.

In effect, a single unfortunate event likes illness, accident, momentary emotional disequilibrium maker’s error resulted in learner’s failure.

Past performance of such learner’s neither affected their overall assessment nor came into reflected consideration in their favour in such unfortunate cases.

On the other hand a hither to dull student could hit on unexpected excellent record by sheer lack in an examination.

The national consequence of this work was that both teachers and pupils shared a common objective of beating the examination malpractice, the most significant of which has been christened “EXPO” of the phenomenon of obtaining lives papers.
