1.0 INTRODUCTION
An accurate computer based drug purchasing system helps you produce, store and ship your products more effectively. That’s why computer based drug purchasing system, CDPS is the backbone to good customer service and operations planning. CDPS. allows you to accurately predict future product sales based on past historical information and your future marketing plan. Computer based drug purchasing system uses artificial intelligence and powerful methodology to quickly create very accurate analysis. The software gives you the ability to predict sales by customer, account group, channel, end-item SKU and package. Both weekly and daily analysis are created with lightning speed, instantly updating on the screen. A pharmaceutical drug, also referred to as medicine, medication or medicament, can be loosely defined as any chemical substance intended for use in the medical diagnosis, cure, treatment, or prevention of disease. Medications can be classified in various ways, such as by chemical properties, mode or route of administration, biological system affected, or therapeutic effects. An elaborate and widely used classification system is the Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical Classification System (ATC system). The World Health Organization keeps a list of essential medicines. A sampling of classes of medicine includes:
1. Antipyretics: reducing fever (pyrexia/pyresis)
2. Analgesics: reducing pain (painkillers)
3. Antimalarial drugs: treating malaria
4. Antibiotics: inhibiting germ growth
5. Antiseptics: prevention of germ growth near burns, cuts and wounds Computer based drug purchasing system of Juhel Pharmacy shows various drug that one can purchase. It records the available drugs, the sold drugs and the money collected from the sold drug. It involves database programming to keep track of the event of the system. The program is also implemented using Visual basic program.
1.1 STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Owing to:
(i) The difficulties people face in keeping purchasing information/data.
(ii) Improper account keeping of sold items.
(iii) Unable to predict future
(iv) Difficulties people encountered when searching for given purchasing information.
(v) Time wasted in searching for information on packed files.
(vi) Time wasted in sorting purchasing record.
(vii) Lost recorded because of inadequate preparing. The need arise for the development of Computer based drug purchasing system for an organization.
1.2 AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The aims and objectives of this project are listed below: To eliminate Poor Analysis attitude and inadequate planning To avoid Poor Integration of drug purchasing and planning in running of business. To keep a comprehensive list of drug purchasing items. To make proper and accurate calculation. To easy the work associated with manual method. To eliminate the error involved with the manual storage of pharmaceutical products. To save the time wasted when searching or sorting for a given pharmaceutical products.
1.3 PURPOSE OF THE STUDY The main purpose of this study is to put to an end the difficulties people encountered during manual storage of sales data/information. This is actualized by designing Computer based drug purchasing system which is user friendly and interactive. By the time this software is designed and implemented, the difficulties encountered with manual method of keeping sales information will be eliminated.

With the growth in information technology, the study offers numerous values both to the film and to any organization that deals on marketing of goods and items. Huge of files kept in the offices will no longer be there again because information will be stored on the computer with the help of the Computer based drug purchasing system Because of the easy to use nature of the Computer based drug purchasing system, any organization can easily buy it to make use of them.
1.5 SCOPE/DELIMITATION
This project work is limited to the use of Juhel Pharmaceutical Ltd Enugu. It is a computer based drug purchasing system for a pharmaceutical organisation for manufacturing industries.
1.6 LIMITATION/CONSTRAINTS
Owing to the scope of this project work as stated above, this project work is limited to a Computer based drug purchasing system for a pharmaceutical organisation of Juhel pharmaceutical Enugu. It is important to mention here that time was a major constraint in the course of fact finding. It is also wise to mention here that some information we need to work with was not collected because of the unwillingness of the staff to review such information.
1.7 ASSUMPTION OF STUDY
One of the major assumptions made in this project work is that manual methods of keeping pharmaceutical records are ineffective, time wasting, prone to error and high level of energy dissipation. It is also assumed that with the level of development in information technology, there is a serious demand to join this trend of information technology. It is also assumed that computer based drug purchasing system for a pharmaceutical organisation will motivate the staffs to work more with easy and enhance their work.
