CHAPTER ONE

1.0  GENERAL INTRODUCTION

It’s traditionally that every student take  in the classroom because there are happy to sit there and have the supervisors or the examiner during the examination as interface by which they can interact when they get stock. Online  is a process that Uyo City Polytechnic will benefit from in order to select the incoming students for admission and other academic assessment. It is noticed that in a long while Uyo City Polytechnic has been using paper material and pen to process entrance , but in this program, it is designed in a way that it will provide the students information, questionnaire and automatically it will compute the total scores equivalent of examination. The reason behind the development of this product (online tset examination system) is to change the existing manual method of administering entrance  in Uyo City Polytechnic. This we believe will evaluate the effectiveness of the school.

 1.1 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

  • The slow process of calculating the result of the because it’s done online.
  • It’s lack of security in monitoring the big number of examiner.
  • Its fails to perform flexibility and accuracy in the process and unsafe storage of records that may cause loss of examination papers.

 1.2 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The objective of this research work is:

  • To design and implement online examination system using virtual basic methodology

 1.3 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

  • The effect of justification design on this system will help in the administrative system of Uyo City Polytechnic to become more effective as compared with today’s school system.
  • This study will help to save as a source of reference to all computer students who might make further research depending on this topic.
  • Its operation will avoid time wasting and improved competence for a better service.

 1.4  SCOPE/DELIMITATION OF THE STUDY

This online  system is designed for educational institute in Computer Science Department, in Uyo City Polytechnic to conduct logic  of its students on a regular basis. This system handles all  operations and security, and it will also generate fast reports as soon as the  is completed. This saves time of the department spent on reviewing answer sheet.

1.5 DEFINITION OF TERMS USED IN THE PROJECT

I.C.T: Is an acronym that stands for information and communication technology. It is concerned with the storage, retrieval, manipulation, transmission or receipt of digital data. It includes any communication device or application encompassing radio, television, cellular phone, computer network hardware and software etc.

Web-Based Application: Is a software package that can be accessed through the web browser. Electronic examination (E-Exam) is a system that allows students to take examination using the computer on real time.

Internet: Is a global system of interconnected computer network that use the standard internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) to serve several billion user worldwide.

Web Browser: Is software application used to locate, retrieve and also display contact on the World Wide Web, including web pages, images videos and other files.
