CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

  • BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

In this century of information explosion data and information are the building block on which every organization is built to operate on organizations such as institutions rely on information for best decision making. This information consists of data with reliable information one can predict the future with reasonable level of accuracy. Beside that management based their automatically increase it efficiency and productivity. Lack of relevant information deformed an organization be it institution and transforms it when sufficient stored information is ready.

Computer play a very significant role in information management especially in storage and retrieve information, which is said to be facts about certain events and subjects, it kept on a computer in a designed structure, providing useful output for management decision since people need to be information about things and event in life such as students information. This information is kept in school management office as record or database. This goes not support Jacobs’s et al (1975) saying that the most successful is the most informed.

 

  • STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

In institutional organizations such as Uyo City Polytechnic, little or no attention is often paid computerized information system as an indispensable tool to effective records management in the major constituent of a school.

A cursory look at Uyo City Polytechnic reveals that the institute cannot perform above board, this is not unconnected with manual system of record management this implies that the problem of effective computerized system especially student information results in low recording and productivity of the institution.

 

  • RESEARCH QUSTIONS

With the forgoing in mind the following research question, become or focus to the study.

  1. Is there any significant relationship between computer and student’s information keeping?
  2. To what extent do UCP attach importance to computer students exams information keeping
  3. How do you agree that, compare manual recording and retrieval?
  4. Do you agree that computer can achieve speed, accuracy and efficiency?
  5. Is workers efficiency in the institution improving since the introducing of computer in the school?
  6. Is there application for analysis of students’ examination information system?
  7. How much is your needs have been met in terms of exam recording of the student in the institution?
  8. How will report the use of computer in analyzing editing manipulation of records of students?
  9. What application packages are or are best for student’s information?
  10. Do analysis and design of students system rewarding?

 

  • PURPOSES OF THE STUDY

The objectives of the study are as follows

  1. To establish the relationship between computer and students examination record keeping
  2. To investigate the output that could be achieved exam information system design ruing computer.
  • To know the extent or reward produced by computer information storage and retrieval.
