ROOT OF Cola parchicarpa (MONKEY COLA)
ABSTRACT
The analysis for the antioxidant activities of leaves, stem bark and root of Cola parchycarpa at different concentration 20, 40, 60 80, and 100mg/ml was carried out using DPPH. The result revealed the following at different concentration: leaves at 20mg/ml (0.120±0.00), 40mg/ml (0.099±0.00), 60mg/ml (0.085±0.00), 80mg/ml (0.081±0.00) and 100mg/ml (0.075±0.00). The result for stembark at 20mg/ml (0.137±0.00), 40mg/ml (0.130±0.00), 60mg/ml (0.118±0.00), 80mg/ml (0.111±0.00) and 100mg/ml (0.110±0.00).The result of the root at 20mg/ml (0.134±0.00), 40mg/ml (0.104±0.00), 60mg/ml (0.094±0.00), 80mg/ml (0.087±0.00), and at 100mg/ml (0.073±0.00). The result of the antioxidant activity of C. parchycarpa leaves, stem bark and root when compared to the ascorbic acid reveals that C. parchycarpa had high antioxidant activity.
