DEVELOPMENT OF ACADEMIC STAFF PERFORMANCE EVALUATION SYSTEM

ABSTRACT

This study undertakes the development of Academic staff performance evaluation software system. The system is intended to be used in evaluating the performance of teaching staff in Nigerian universities.The motivation for carrying out this research work is to create a computer-based system that will enable the students effectively evaluate the academic performance of their lecturers online for the purpose of rewarding excellence, encouraging hard work, punishing lazy one. The research workcarried out using the Object Oriented Analysis and Design (OOAD) methodology. The basic modeling instruments that will be used for analysis, design and development of the proposed system are chosen sub-sets of Unified Modelling Language (UML) notations and techniques namely – use case diagram, class diagram, sequence diagrams, activity diagram and operational flow diagram. The programming technologies  adopted for developing the system are: PHP Hypertext Pre-Processor version 5, Asynchronous JavaScript and Extensible Markup Language (AJAX), Cascading Style Sheet version 3, Bootstrap, Hypertext Markup Language version 5, JavaScript, JQuery, PHPMyAdmin and MYSQL relational database engine. The criteria to evaluate the academic staff include class room teaching ability and relationship with students.  The output from the performance evaluation system is a comprehensive data collected against individual academicstaff of the university, which shows their grade according to their performance.
