CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

  • BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Before the creation of Akwa Ibom state in September 1987, were in existing of two broadcasting media in the mainland of cross rive state. (Now Akwa Ibom state).

Normally, Cross River Radio Abak and cross television authority  situated at Uyo and the two station were operating on a very low capacity output in order to create self identity and recognition of an instrumentation  refereed to as establishment of broadcasting ethics “no 4 of 1988”. It was promulgated, by the state government.

This formally brought the Nigerian Television Authority with a general manager as the chief executive to coordinate the operations of the two services.

The edict provides for the board of directors with a composition of a corporation and five others members with requisite experience in management, mass communication financial matters, engineering and education, the duties of the board include lying down the policies for effective running, planning and development of the co-operation.

The board also ensures that the corporation provides independent and impartial broadcasting services in the state.

The Nigeria Television Authority Uyo operates on 1.395, megahertz 2 (mH2) and 215 meters walk band. The amplitude modulating channel has a transmitting power output of 30 kilometers while the transmitting output capacity of 30m kilometers with very strong signals and protection.

It covers most of the eastern state of Nigeria. It is located along Aka Etinan road 19  kilometers from the state headquarters  fro a cheaper view of the manager, an organization chart of NTA, Uyo is attached a appendix “A”.

  • STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

It is increasingly witnessed that motivations have suffered set-backs owing to poor productivity in an organization. This observed in Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), most customers of Nigerian Television Authority have been complaining vehemently about the poor method of productivity employed by the management of the organization of (NTA) which invariably has pampered the business growth.

It is increasingly viewed that lack of productivity in an organization with reference to Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Uyo has been one of the patient issues attracting effective research. The management employees’ productivity in an organization in Akwa Ibom State.

However, this study set to investigate the reasons why Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) does not grow in its business endeavour, with a view to providing positive suggestion.

  • OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The main objectives of this research are:

  1. To examine the effects of inadequate facilities on employee’s performance.
  2. To determined the relationship between the employees motivation and productivity.
  3. To ascertain how organizational goals can be achieved through motivation.
  4. To investigate hoe motivation ca increase performance result from the interaction of physical financial and human resources.
  5. To examine other factors that causes poor performance of employees and low productivity in NTA.
  6. To recommended measures for improved working environment for enhanced employees performance and productivity.

 

  • RESEARCH QUESTIONS

The following research questionnaire formulated with a view to providing answers in the course of the research:

  1. Does a motivation increase employee work efficiency and effectiveness?
  2. Is increase in salary a way of motivating employees?
  3. What is the relationship between motivating and employee productivity?
  4. What extent has the motivation impact on employee’s efficiency/productivity?
  5. What is the basic motivation technique used in an organization to enable employee productivity?
