1.0   INTRODUCTION

Music is an art of creating and making pleasant and organized sound with the human voice or other musical instruments. It is also an art of arranging tones in an orderly sequence so as to produce a unified and continuous composition. Music involves whistling, playing of musical instruments, singing and dancing. Music is useful to any human being. Human being uses music in one way or the other because music is seen as an integral part of human life.

Music is useful to all human in all aspects both in social, economic and spiritual life. For example, there are music for relaxation, meditation, worship and entertainment. People have different feeling, behavioural pattern and attitude to music as a whole. This research work is written to examine the belief of female students to music learning.

Belief is a point of view about a situation, it has three components this consist of what you feel, what you do and what you think. No matter what the situation an individual may find himself, one would always have certain thoughts or thinking about the belief of an individual in a society. You also have an emotional response to it and also behave a certain way to it. To begin changing the attitude or belief of a society, the act, feeling and thinking of an individual must be changed. In some secondary schools, and institutions of learning where music learning exists, the way the music teacher handle or teaches music in the classroom may not be conducive or attractive to the students most especially the female students. This could enable them have bad or negative thinking towards music learning. Musically, most female students might not be intellectually gifted or most of them didn’t have enough ability to praticalise music and this could affect the female students in learning. It is easier to change the thinking, feeling and behaviour but it is not so easy to change one’s emotion. If a female student has positive belief or thinking towards music, it would affect their music learning.
