This research project aims to examine the use of a workbook as a resource to improve English reading and writing skills. This project was carried out in Social Education Association (ASE) where the participants are from social stratum 1, 2, and 3. We chose to work on the workbook as it is a material that is available to students and has the ability to be worked inside and outside the classroom. In addition, we wanted to explore whether the workbook helped to increase students’ autonomous learning. This study employed data collection instruments such as questionnaires, interviews and observation journal. The results demonstrated that the students improved their writing and reading skills by using the workbook. Moreover, the findings showed that the students increased a little their autonomy and motivation in English learning.
