ABSTRACT

This study was undertaken to examine the relevance and important of fund management in the Local Government Council, a case of Uyo Local Government Council. To achieve the objective of the study, research questions and hypothesis were formulated to guide the researcher. The study was carried out using survey design where ninety nine (99) respondents were drawn using the Yamane’s technique while the data analysis employed was single regression to test the hypothesis as well as the research question. Findings from the study revealed that, fund management has a significant effect on the Local Government in terms of revenue and expenditure, from the period 2010 – 2019 which made the alternated hypothesis (H1) to be retained while the null hypothesis (H0) rejected at -1.85955 level of significant. It was revealed that proper fund management plays an important role in the attainment of objectives of the Local Government Council. Findings are revealed that factors like poor planning, weak internal control system and waste spending hindered its effectiveness. It was based on the result that recommendation were made that management should establish an effective internal control system of revenue and expenditure to check disbursement. This research concluded that if Local Government Council implements these recommendations mentioned, there would be no misappropriation of funds deficit in the system.
