 CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1      BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

In any organization whether it is small or large achievement. There are many reasons why people major concern is that employee should recognize and accept the common goals of the organization and work co-operatively towards.

Motivation is controlled by some internal and external factors. Inside the individual (soul or spirit) is usually considered the greatest motivation. An individual motivation is a combination of desire and desire and energy directed at the achievement of a goal. Influencing someone’s motivation means getting them to do what you know must be done. Persons motivation depends on the strength of certain needs and the perception that certain action will help satisfying these needs. The forces of understanding the impact of motivation is very crucial to the organization for several reasons.

First, every organization its workforce to perform at an acceptable level and for this aspiration to be realized, it has to motivate its workforce to perform again, those who get the managers will have to be motivated to do the right job at the right time in an anticipated manner (Buchan Irvin of 2004).

Toward this end, the researcher has been motivated to investigate and determine the impact of motivation on the organizational productivity.

 

1.2      STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Motivation is that which causes an individual to change his or her behaviour in a directed end. It is believed that people work in organization for varied reason (economic, social etc). When the organization is unable to supply these needs they may leave for other organizations. It is them the responsibility of management to find out and satisfy the needs of their workers, while at the same time direct their attention towards organizational goals. If this is done the employees will be willing to co-operate towards the success of the enterprises.

Basically, it is increasingly evident that Hospital management board, Akwa Ibom State, has not been motivating  its staff, despite then performance, they have been complaining over poor welfare packages, lack of bonuses, among others it is against the background that this study sets to examine the reasons with a view to filling the gap.

1.3      OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY      

The main objectives of the study are to examine the impact of motivation on organizational productivity specifically the study will.

  1. Examine the impact of motivation on the productivity of hospital management board, Akwa Ibom State
  2. To find out the type of motivation strategies adopted on the staff productivity of Hospital Management Board, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
  3. To suggest ways and means of Hospital Management Boards, Uyo Akwa Ibom State

 

1.4      RESEARCH QUESTION

In carrying out this study, the following question were formulated to guide the study

  1. What is the impact of motivation on employee productivity of Hospital Management Board, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State
  2. What causes motivation?

 

1.5      HYPOTHESES OF THE STUDY

Ho:     There is no significant impact of motivation on the employees of Hospital Management Board, Akwa Ibom State

Hi:      There is significant impact of motivation on the employees of Hospital Management Board, Akwa Ibom State

1.6      SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The study is useful for instilling motivation awareness managers, employees, in any organization. That is, the importance to have right amount of motivation indicators to position and empower workforce upon increasing positive productivity issue.

The study will also help the researchers work to have driving force of motivation and empower workforce upon increasing positive productivity issues.

This study will also help the readers of this research work to have driving force of motivation and assessment of productive relatives. Finally, this study will serve as a reference materials for student studying in the same areas of research.

 

1.7      SCOPE/LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

This work was limited to the analysis of the impact of motivation on organizational productivity. The hospital management boards of Akwa Ibom State was used as the case study. However, the researcher  was faced with some difficulties in gathering data for research. Like unwillingness of respondents in giving information’s time and financial construal. But inspite  of these limitation I was still able to carryout one of the best researchers of my time.
