INFLUENCE OF INCLUSIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT ON LEARNING OUTCOME OF STUDENTS WITH PHYSICAL IMPAIRMENT IN OBUDU, CROSS RIVER STATE

ABSTRACT

The study was aimed at investigating the influence of inclusive learning environment and learning outcome among students with physical impairment in Obudu, Cross River State. The study adopted survey research design. Three null hypotheses and four research questions were posed on the basis of the four independent variables which included adapted architectural infrastructure, adapted assessment strategies, inclusive co-curricular activities and inclusive attitude as factors that influence the learning outcome of students with physical impairment. To enhance effective data collection, one instrument was used for data collection from the 25 selected respondents. The data collected were statistically analyzed by adopting descriptive statistics of percentage, pie, Pearson product Moment Correlation Coefficient and multiple regression analysis. All hypotheses were tested at 0.05 alpha level. The result showed that there was significant relationship between the independent variables and the dependent variable. Based on the findings, some recommendations were made among others that the government, school administrators and other stakeholders in inclusive schools must ensure necessary designs, and activities conducted in inclusive settings must be adapted to suit the needs of students with physical impairment. Finally, it was suggested that an investigation be made into same topic but with a larger sample size to ensure reliable generalization.
