This qualitative phenomenological investigation, based on Martin Heidegger, addresses the manifestation of graduates from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul Nursing School (EEUFRGS), in relation to the referent 1996 syllabus in human care. The aim was to understand if the development of theoretical and theoretical-practical education provided a theoretical and practical basis for the professional performance. The project no. 2005430 was approved by the UFRGS Research and Ethics Committee, complied with guidelines and regulations for research involving human beings. Eight nurses graduated between 2000 and 2005, whose syllabus included human care as a reference frame took part in the study. The material collected via a semi-structured interview was subjected to a phenomenological analysis. Six essences were obtained in relation to the graduates and the job market, the nurses, the human body, the managerial skill, etc. The aspects constituting the manifest phenomenon demonstrated the importance of former students’ contribution to their original institution, and since this topic is dynamic, further studies are needed.
