CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1       BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The term motivation was originally derived from Latin, word “motive” which means the main sprays of action in people. The leader who to incite his follower to reach an objective must hold out the promise of rewarding them. An the reward people seek in life is to fulfill their want, drive and need.

Motivation is interested in the “Why” of human behaviours it tries to unravel the rationales behind human behaviours. Although not all human behaviors are motivated, some are no reflex action habit or instruct, a manager is only interested in those behavior that can be motivated when an individual is left with a choice.

Motivation are those things, which induce an individual to perform. It could be tangible (extrinsic) or intangible (intrinsic). A manager can make effort directed toward sharing motivation by establishing an environment conducice top ascertain drive, i.e motivation is something use toward achieving a desired goal e.g. higher pay, a prestigious title, development of employee’s etc. what a manager to perform effectively and efficiently leads to the company folding up due to the goals of the organization being hindered.
