ABSTRACT
This study focuses on the Role of Nigerian Traditional Rulers Impact in Sustenance of Democracy, 1911 – 1921 using Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area as a case study. The major instrument of data collection was questionnaire and simple random sampling technique was used in selecting respondents for data collection. Data analysis tool involved simple percentage and simple frequency tables. The study draws a sample of 100 respondents from different clan in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government, out of the 100 questionnaire that was administered to the respondents, 80 Questionnaire was retrieved and used for data analysis. The research work was divided into five chapters and four research questions were raised and analyzed which the result showed that the traditional institution plays an important role in sustenance of democracy, in Nigeria, the study also proves that the role of traditional rulers in mobilization process facilitates political participation of the citizens and also help in sustaining democratic governance in the country. Finally, the study also proves that the participation of traditional rulers in partisan politics affects the level of political stability.
