NUTRITIONAL VALUES OF Secamoneafzelii (AFANG IKOT OR AFANG EBOK)

ABSTRACT

Determination of the nutritional value of Secamonieafzelii was the focus of this study. The leaves of the sample were harvested from a farm in NsitAtai and taken to the laboratory for weighing and other scientific preparations for analysis using standard procedure. The result of the programme analysis shows that moisture content in the sample to be 28% protein 0.8%, crude fibre 7.5%. Ash content 10.78% and indication of high elemental content in the sample. The sample has high caloic value 330.68 Kcal, mineral content show the following values Na (115mg/100g); K (120mg/100g; Calcium (65mg/100g) and Vitamin C content 35. 65mg/100g). The leaf is highly nutritive and has come remarkable pharmaceutical benefit as indicated in literature, hence should be consumed.
