The following’four topic areas are addressed (sample’subtopics in parentheses): child development and child rearing of children with special needs (motor development, body positioning aids to make at home, cognitive development, and speech and language development); teaching issues (reinforcement, discipline, and play); family issues (parent needs, initial reactions, siblings); and special issues (children’s vision and hearing, community resources, and educational rights for children with handicaps).
