ABSTRACT
The study was designed to investigate the effect of parental background and academic performance of the secondary student In Nsit Atai Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. The study was done on the basis of economic status of parent, parental occupation, educational level of parents, the home and size of the family as factor significantly achievement. The study population was one thousand seven hundred and fifty (1,750) students. The instrument used for the study was a four point likert scale type question are designed by the researcher and was administered to one hundred and fifty (150) SS III. Student from seven (7) schools using the simple random sampling method. Five (5) null hypotheses were formulated by researchers, which served as guide and were tested at the significance level of employed. The major finding arising from the study were income of parent, the home and the size of the family all serves as determinants based on the above findings, some recommendations were made and suggestion of some educational problem were made for further studies.
