As a result of the findings, the following recommendation were also made;

  • A support group and counseling services should be made available for pupils in the school.

  • The government should release enough funds into schools and try to monitor its spending to ensure that basic school needs of the students are met.

CHAPTER 0NE

  • INTRODUCTION
  • BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY

Education is the primary agent of transformation towards sustainable development. It increases  peoples capacities to transform their visions for society into reality. All countries strive for quality education for their sustainable development. The government of Nigeria like any other African country, consider education as a fundamental human right and an essential means to ensure that all Nigeria realize their full potentials. It places special emphasis on basic education as a priority area within the Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers (PRSP) because of the strong correlation between education and improved economic opportunities, better life and fewer children ( family planning), especially for girls.

The Government of Nigeria cannot satisfy educational needs of its increasing population, so the private sector also plays a great role in educational development by creating schools known as private schools which operate at all levels of education from nursery to the tertiary and enroll a good number of people. In the past, the historical growth in enrollment was largely a public sector phenomenon, involving schools financed almost entirely by the government amd managed either by the government itself or, in the case of private subsidized schools, b churches and other organizations ( World Bank 2004).

Good parenting promotes and support the physical, emotional, social and intellectual development of a child from infancy to adulthood. Parents who are the major stakeholders in the business of parenting play vital roles in the course of rising up their children. As such they decide what is to be learnt by their children. Lareur (2002) observed that parents are expected to make decisions about their childs education.

Also, parents play modeling role to their children, the children watch them and imitate them either they engage in wrong doing or in right attitude, the absolute control of parents over their children depends on so many factors and these factors have a long a way to go in the entire progress of their children. Kettner (2008) opined that terms of education without much stress.
