1.0     INTRODUCTION

Medical diagnosis is an important task that should be performs as accurately and efficiently possible.

Over the years, the problems hospital and medical practitioners have been the problems of not being able to diagnose a patient’s problem and have a correct result. All doctors are not equally skilled in every subspecialty. A doctor can specialized in gynecology and another in orthopedic which they are in many places a scarce resource. A system designed for automated medical diagnosis would reduce cost and enhance medical care.

Although electronic database have been used in medical research for analysis of data for years, computerized information system rarely have been used or collection of data during the actual patient-physician interactions.

The computer aided diagnosis system can be used to carry out an effective laboratory test. This information gather from the test results has to be recorded in a reliable storage memory. In the recent time, due to the advancement in technology, some machines have been developed to help medical diagnose. Such machine can be seen in different unit.

  • STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The way medical practitioners diagnose patient’ ailment in the hospital, Etinan has been faced with lots of problems. The problems include the following:

  1. a) Incorrect result: due to the fact that information is not stored in a reliable database, a mix-up may arise when diagnosing ailment and prescribing or recommending drugs.
  2. b) Waste of time: the manual system takes a longer period of time. If the system needs an urgent attention, before a doctor could flip through his document the case may become an emergency.
  3. c) Insecurity and lack of privacy: in the manual system, patient’s privacy is not safeguarded. An unauthorized user may have access to the patient’s details.
  4. d) Inefficiency data storage: doctors often required the information about a patient’s family history, physical ailments and prescribe medicine. • OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

For the study to be successful, the following objectives have been developed:

  1. To carry out the analysis of the existing system of the General Hospital, Etinan.
  2. To identify the problem encountered in the existing system during the recording of patient result information.
  3. To provide means of communication between the physician and the patient without any fear of insecurity.
  4. To minimize data redundancy and inconsistency.
  5. To ensure privacy of patient’s information.
  6. To ensure patient’s data accuracy and correctness
  7. To design a computer aided medical diagnosis system.

1.3     SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The introduction of computer aided diagnosis system to General Hospital; Etinan will be of great benefit to the medical practitioners, the patients and the environment at large.

It will help the management of the similar service and other organization in decision making if the decide to own a computer aided system.

The study computer aided diagnosis system (CADS) will also benefit the individuals in the society who want to make use of this work as a reference material.

  • PURPOSE OF THE STUDY

Having seen the stress patient’s go through before their ailments are successfully diagnosed, the main reason of designing this system is as follows:
