ROLE OF MONEY MARKET IN PROMOTING INDUSTIRAL DEVELOPMENT IN AKWA IBOM STATE (A CASE STUDY OF FIRST BANK OF NIGERIA PLC, IKOT EKPENE BRANCH)

ABSTRACT

This research work examined the role of money market in promoting industrial development in Akwa Ibom State, using First Bank of Nigeria Plc, Ikot Ekpene Branch as case study. The objectives of the study are to examine the effect of liquidity management in promoting industrial development, to examine the effect of equilibrium mechanism in promoting industrial development, to examine the effect of portfolio management in promoting industrial development and to identify the economics use of cash in promoting industrial development. To accomplish the research objectives, the study adopted the survey design method while the convenience sampling technique was used to select (82) respondent as sample size for the study. Instrument for data collection was a self developed questionnaire and the forms are administered personally. They data collected were arrange in tables and analyzed using sample descriptive statistical method. Findings from the study revealed that there is significant effect of liquidity management in promoting industrial development, that there is significant effect of equilibrium mechanism in promoting industrial development and there is significant effect of economic uses of cash in promoting industrial development.  Based on the findings, the following recommendation were made by the researcher, that government should put in place appropriate and sound macroeconomic policies to boost the development of the money bank with a view to promoting productive activities and investments and that money market should be better reform to complement the recent banking sector reforms with a view to reposing some confidence in prospective investors and entrepreneurs.
