ABSTRACT
This study focuses on socio-economic impacts of Covid-19 on the Nigerian economy using Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area as a case study. The major instrument of data collection was questionnaire and simple random sampling technique used in selecting respondents for data collection. Data analysis tool involved simple percentage and simple frequency tables. The study draws a sample of 100 respondents from different wards in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area. The research work was divided into five chapters and four research questions were raised and analyzed which the result investigated the socio-economic impacts of Covid-19 on the Nigerian economy in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, identify the problems caused by Covid-19 in the progress of the Nigerian economy in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, determine strategies that can address Covid-19’s negative impact of progress in the Nigerian economy in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area and lastly identify the best mechanisms for reducing Covid-19’s negative impact on Nigerian economy in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area.The study therefore recommended that Governments should conscientiously transform and restructure their economies and restructure them away from primary commodity exporting countries which are exposed to the viscidities of global trade and other external shocks and Governments should revamp decent work state programmes in all states in Nigeria, in the light of Covid-19 realities, ensure they have in-built elements for addressing vulnerabilities and building resilience of productive sectors for quality and inclusive employment
