STATISTICAL ANALYSIS ON EFFECT OF SINGLE AND DOUBLE PARENT ON ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF STUDENT (A CASE STUDY OF ERUWA COMMUNITY) (STATISTICS PROJECT TOPICS AND MATERIALS)

ABSTRACT

          This study examined the statistical analysis of the effect of single and double patience on the academic performance of student, with particular focus an Eruwa community in Ibarapa east local government area of Oyo state.

The aim was to ascertain statistically the core effect of single and double parenting and the academic performance of student. In carrying out the study, three (3) null hypotheses(Ho) were tested. The sample for the study consisted of (142) adolescents randomly selected from four public senior secondary schools in Ibarapa local government area of Oyo state. The instrument used for data collection was a self-developed questionnaire. The data collected were analyzed using both sample percentage and chi square statistical methods. The results were significant at 0.05 level of significant. The result revealed that:

Ø There is no association between most drops out student from various institution of learning single parent household.

Ø The academic performance of students with double parent and that of single parent are not dependent.

Ø The roles of parent in their child or ward education have positive impact on their academic performance.

1.0       INTRODUCTION

1.1       BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

            Growing up without both parents is associated with a host of poor child outcomes, such as higher poverty rates and lower levels of educational and occupational performance. Compared to children living with their married, biological parents. The advantages of living with two continuously married parents are not shared equally by all children. Children from high conflict families compared to low conflict families, have an increased like hood of dropping out of school, performing low, smoking, drinking, etc. Child’s shaping responsibility lies solely in the hands of parents. This can grunt with the common asserting by sociologist that education can be instrument of cultural change, which is being taught from home.

            Therefore, it is not out of a place to imagine that the single and double parental general background can have possible effects on the academic performance of students.

            Education, not only provides knowledge and skills, but also in collates values, training of instincts, fostering right attitude and habits parenting statics is one of such variable.

            It is pertinent here to look at these concepts “single and double parenthood, student academic performance” in a short description single –parenthood can be seen as when one come out of two parents who is responsible for the maturity and child rearing is not available, and the work meant for two parents, is now been carried out by only one person (single parent).

            On the other hand, the case is the reverse for double parents. In this contest the performance of students in school in the amount of effort put by such student (s) to achieve an academic set goal.

            From the foregoing, the effects of double parents over that of single an academic performance of a child are numerous in diverse view. And, these cannot be over emphasize, thereby employed the theory that says, “two are better than one”, in terms of socio-economic background, educational level, occupation, family size, etc of the both parents.
