TEACHERS’ LEVEL OF COMPETENCE AND EFFECTIVE TEACHING OF HAUSA LANGUAGE (EDUCATION PROJECT TOPICS AND MATERIALS)

 

ABSTRACT

This study critically looks into the teachers’ level of competence and effective teaching of Hausa language in selected public secondary schools in Abeokuta metropolis of Ogun State. It also examines the various factors that can contribute to teaching of Hausa effectively the need to organise with in the society, the role of the government in educational system. The instrument used for collecting the data was a well designed questionnaire that was used by the researcher to interview Hausa teacher in secondary school. The finding revealed that not all the Hausa teacher are teaching effectively. However, some suggestion and recommendations have been provided for better improvement of these teachers levels of competence and effective teaching of Hausa language in secondary such as. Good preparation of the teacher will determine how the learners can have the solid foundation and bright future in the subject. Government should also help to proved the necessary amenities funds and materials for both college of education and universities to produce competent and well prepared teacher in the area of their field.

INTRODUCTION

1.0   Background to the Study

It is very obvious that good teacher level of competence implies good student productivity, in addition, good teacher also produces good student. The level of competency of a good teacher is critical to the survival of any educational system. The key to the provision of a good primary and secondary education system largely depends on the quality of a teachers available.

Teachers are product of schools, you can not have a good teacher until you have a good schools. Therefore, an increase in the number of a good and competent teachers must be the concern of education. Then a good teacher is someone who apart from his ability to transfer or effectively impart knowledge, that is, be, competent on his learners, is also able to perform certain important administrative functions which should be geared toward the giving of clear direction to the learners process, which have identified to be closely related to instructions.

These include: planning, organizing, guiding and directing, motivation, making decisions, co-ordinating, evaluating.

All these instrument tell about teachers level of competent of achieving the main educational goals.
