  • INTRODUCTION

1.1       BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Looking of all the problems facing the human race in the world today, that of rapid population growth is a major one. All over the world, medical science have succeed in reducing the deaths of infants and children especially in advance countries such as United State of America (USA) Britain, France etc also in Nigeria there is increase in population especially in the present situation where polygamy is the order of the day in many homes.

Nigeria as a country is facing overpopulation problem and high rate of mortality between our youth. Hence it is necessary to establish a basic for the introduction of sexuality education (sex education) techniques to the people, sexuality education will certain minimizes this type of social problems. Sexuality education is one of the major factor determinants of future stability in families of any nation. It is comprehensive and systematic development programmed extending from infants to maturity. It is planned and directed to produced social and moral desirable sexual attitude, practices and behavior. Sloan et al [2003].

In a society where boy and girls admitted into the same school create problem of physical problem and emotional involvement which eventually results in arousing sexuality. This anxiety created in them; make the jump into this game of uncontrollable emotion. Correct and relevant information should be given to student or teenagers about the changes and development they observe in their bodies during the period of maturity. The girls develop breast and pelvic bone broaden etc. these start about age of twelve (12) years while the  boys sexual organs matures, their chest widen and their larynx enlarges. This period in teenagers is very crucial in the life of an individual and many frustrations may occur during this stage such as school dropout sexual, immorality, juvenile delinquencies to mention a few.

Gone are those days when sexual matter was hidden from children. They are expected to be given information about sex so as to break through the desire in them so that they will not go astray.Sex drive can lead to sexual Immorality which can result to unwanted pregnancy. Most unmarried teenagers who have babies are carried away by sexual feelings and emotional desire. This can lead to abortion, sexually transmitted diseases and so on.
