THE DESIGN OF POLICE INFORMATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM A CASE STUDY OF NIGERIA POLICE FORCE, C-DIVISION, UYO

THE DESIGN OF POLICE INFORMATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM A CASE STUDY OF NIGERIA POLICE FORCE, C-DIVISION, UYO

CHAPTER ONE

  • INTRODUCTION

The computer is a powerful tool that enables a wide variety of jobs to be performed in a faster and better ways than other methods (Buchi et al 1980: 240) it has assumed such position of important that our business government, social institution including the Nigeria police force in particular could  not function efficiently  and  effectively without it.

With the proliferation of police division 1 station and the volume of record on daily basis. The need for computer as an information and data processing tool becomes very important and highly needed.

Therefore the main objective of this research projects is to investigate and possibly expose how the design of information management system can assist in the proper keeping of records in the Nigeria police force.

  • STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

In recent times, there has been this problem of lack of effective record keeping in Nigeria police force. This form of observation has really affected the performance in the areas of documentary various case files. Science the document was kept manually.

Therefore, with the proliferation of criminal cases, the manual system becomes bulky and sometimes files got lost, misdirected and tempered with, thus this lead to criminal investigation departments to look for a modern technological method of information storage,  transmitting and retrieval which is  faster than the previous used paper method.

  • OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The objective of the study includes the following:

  • To designed an application of police information management system.
  • To recommend on the implementation of the system in above designed.
  • To ensure effectiveness, retrieval of data records when needed.

  • SIGNIFICANT OF THE STUDY

It is also hoped that the result of this study would help the police force to understand the important of proper information management and record keeping for effective implementation and prosecution.

In addition, this study would help to save as a source of reference to all the student of computer science department who might make further research relating to this topic.

  • SCOPE OF THE STUDY

This research project is based on the design of police information management system, Nigeria police force C-Division.

It is not possible in all the police station across country. Rather, the researcher believes that detailed study of the problem defined C-division. Thus, it would give an insight into how it  is being used in all police division across  the state

  • LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

For this project research work to have succeeded, some logistics constraint so was found which the following were:

  • This project was limited to the design of police information management system.
  • The researcher was limited by the incorporated attitude of some members of the force.
  • Time and finance also limits the wider coverage of this work.
