ABSTRACT

The study examined the Influence of Professional Code of Conducts of Office System Managers on Secretarial Service Delivery in Banking Industries ex-post facto research design was used for the study. Simple random sampling technique was used to select 40 respondents out of 60. The instrument used for data collection was questionnaire titled “The Influence of Professional Code of Conducts of Office Systems Manager on Secretarial service Delivery in Banking Industries (IPCCOSMQ)”. The instrument was validated by two experts. Data from 40 completed questionnaire forms were used for data analysis. The hypotheses were tested using chi-square statistics. The findings showed that punctuality in professional code significantly influence secretarial service delivery in banking industries. Recommendations were made that all office system managers in banking industries should always report to work early and the management staff of banking industries should see to it that all office system managers adhere to professional code of conducts of ethic.

INTRODUCTION

1.0 Background of the Study

It is pertinent for all employees in an organization both in profit making and nonprofit making for the purpose of effectiveness, efficiency and profitable in work output, to comply with professional code of conduct. Code of conduct can never be over emphasize in banking industries as it goes a long way to improve productivities of the banking institutions. Professional codes of conduct are those principles governing a particular skilled work in an organization. It is a professional criteria by which an office system manager an even other office managers differentiate between the right and wrong. Just one recorded of an action that is unaccepted on the part of a secretary may largely determine her success or failure in an organization, firm or an entry industry: the inference begins drawn here is in no way hypothetical but is based on real-life experience. The influence of a professional code of conduct of office system managers is therefore of critical significance in secretarial service delivery in banking industries. Musgrave in Njoku (2000) maintained that there are a number of characteristics that are common to all professional. The knowledge required to practice the way in which entry to the professional is ethical code governing work ethic. In this regard, it is significant to remark that every work situation or environment is unique and since the secretary is expected to play the roles of a diplomat par excellence, she would be expected to be into the job such personal and business attributes as punctuality, modesty, human relations, loyal, secrecy and effective communication skill to be able to cope with the demands of the office. Akpan, (2000) Stated that a secretary must meet the standard of behavior set out for him or her. He or she must possess the personal and business attributes required. Professional code of conduct involves the display of the personal and business attributes of a secretary in her profession. These include punctuality for increase productivity, modesty dressing for increasing the corporate image of the organization and inter-personal relationship among colleagues, (Bittner 2002). The do’s and don’ts of the profession serve as useful guides to practicing office system managers who desire not only to keep their jobs, but also to excel in their career. 1.1 Statement of the Problem Office system managers are expected to display good working attitudes in the banking industries and also act as roles models. But in most organization. It has been observed that attitude to indiscipline as their attitude to work is poor. They are often late to work, absenting themselves from work without permission, lazy and incompetent. Indecent dressing is exhibiting. For instance, it is dishonesty for a staff to arrive at his work place at 9.30am but turns around to sign 8.00am in the time book. Moreover, it is a breach of professional code of conduct if office system managers who are expected to maintain a high level of inter-personal relationship among colleague turns round to have inter-personal relationship among colleagues. On the other hand, a close observation of the professional code of secretarial work shows that punctuality to work, modest dressing, friendly cordial relationship and a good communication approach must be observed. Based on this find out the influence of professional code of conduct to office system managers on secretarial service delivery in banking industries.

1.2 Purpose of the Study

The main purpose of this study was to find out professional code of conduct influence office system managers or secretarial service delivery in banking industries. Specifically, the study sought to Determined how punctuality influences secretarial service delivery in banking industries. Find out how dressing code influences secretarial service delivery in banking industries. Determine how inter-personal relationship code among colleagues influences secretarial service delivery in banking industries.
