Abstract

Purpose: determining and substantiating the potential of “smart technologies” in organizing the protest actions in the 21st century.

Design/Methodology/Approach: In the context of the above problem, a range of methodological approaches is distinguished, which offer the research tools for analyzing the forms, methods, and principles of applying “smart technologies” in protest activities. Distinguishing communicativeness as the main characteristic of “smart technologies” leads us to the conclusion on the relevance of using the communicative approach. Communicative determining records dependence between the level of development of the means and technologies of communication and the models of public behavior. The empirical basis of the research is case study, which allows – based on certain practices of using information and communication technologies in protest activities – determining the tendencies, specific features, and organizational potential of “smart technologies” in modern protests.
