ABSTRACT
This paper is a critical analysis of the social and economic improvement importance of the people and region called Eleme in Rivers State from 1956 to 2015, Eleme has undergone several forms of restructuring. Investigation being carried by anthropologist shows that they are from the east most sections of the semi Bantu people. The aim of this work is to, without bias look at the different levels of development that has taken place in Eleme, the culture of the people of Eleme, trade pattern, the impact and disastrous activities by multi-national oil companies in the exploration and exploitation of crude oil, inspite of the enormous wealth derived from Eleme, the government have shown little concern towards the area by improving the living standard of the people. This work is primarily based on oral interviews and a little bit of textual analysis. This work amongst other things recommends different ways with which Eleme as a community can have sustainable growth, improve her policies towards skills acquisition and entrepreneurial schemes to enhance her delivering on her programs.Â
