THERMO PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF ELEPHANT GRASS (PENNISETUM PURPUREUM) FIBRE BOARD

ABSTRACT

 

The purpose of this project is to carry out research on the thermophysical properties of elephant grass fibreboard. One (1) granulated sample, other two (2) are the straw board and one fibreboard. Result show that the thermal conductivity values (0.9215 wm-1K-1 to 0.6856 wm-1K-1) specific heat capacity values (169.1 to 116.3Jg-1 K-1) and density values (12.432kgm-3 to 4.2941kg/m3), of all the sample in effectiveness with other insulation construction materials. A model was also presented for the prediction of temperature response and the stiffness of the compression molded specimens is related to the consolidation state of the samples, which depend on compression molding conditions Grass fibre reinforced cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB) biocomposites made with smc processing had similar physical properties with elephant grass fibre which indicate that the natural fiber have the potential to replace polyolefin based composite for automotive applications.
