ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was to examine the voters apathy and election in Cross River State: A case study of 2019 General Elections in Calabar Municipality. To achieve this aim three (3) hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. Literature were reviewed based on the variables of the study survey design was adopted for the study using simple random sampling technique and 300 respondents as sample. Questionnaire was designed as an instrument for data collection with Pearson Product Moment correlation coefficient statistical analysis at 0.05 level of significance in testing the hypotheses. The result of the analysis reviewed that low turnout among eligible voters decreases the legitimacy of democracy in Calabar Municipality. Based on these findings, recommendations were made among others: to further improve the electioneering processes, the electoral body has to rise to the occasion of setting the electioneering guidelines for the political parties inorder to prevent the outbreak of pre-election, election and post-election violence in Calabar Municipality and Nigeria as a whole.
