On behalf of the Advisory Board, I wish to congratulate Integrative Zoology on its 10th anniversary. Ten years ago, in 2006, Integrative Zoology was launched as the multidisciplinary flagship journal of the newly formed ISZS, and became central to our founding mission to promote zoology as an integrative discipline and to provide an attractive publishing venue for original research and reviews that present a broader perspective of zoological inquiry. Its debut issue, formed by a compilation of selected landmark papers from the first International Symposium of Integrative Zoology, are still some of the most downloaded and cited articles to this day. The visionary approach of integrating two or more subfields of zoology and even other disciplines has resonated with the scientific community. Since its inception, thanks to a supportive Editorial Board and Advisory Board, the journal Integrative Zoology has grown by leaps and bounds. In 2010, the journal became SCI-E indexed and we received our first impact factor (IF) rating. Thanks to the efforts of many individuals, including our editors, guest editors, authors and reviewers, and our publishing partners Wiley and the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the 2010s saw a period of sustained growth in readership and, ultimately, increased impact. Integrative Zoology is now available at over 4000 institutes worldwide. In 2014, the IF jumped 34% to 1.904, placing us firmly in the Q1 (top 25%) of the world’s zoology journals, resulting in the achievement of a long-term goal for our journal. Today we are still ranked as a Q1 journal in this competitive field, with an IF (2015) of 1.722. The journal has rallied zoologists from around the world, and has been central to the mission of reintegrating zoology in the face of today’s challenges such as increased globalization, global and climate change, and the threat of non-native invasive species. Many special issues have been devoted to topics such as the ISZS’s research program “Biological Consequences of Global Change” (Zhang 2013), the impact of human activities on fish and fisheries (Song et al. 2015), and even global tiger conservation (Miquelle 2015). The journal has also championed the idea of bringing the world’s zoologists together with many interactive workshops, training courses and conferences. This year marks the 8th International Symposium of Integrative Zoology, which is now an annual event to be held even during this year’s 22nd International Congress of Zoology in Okinawa, Japan. Through this journal, many scientific associations and disciplines have come together, and the field of Integrative Zoology has reemerged to face today’s new challenges. Congratulations on this achievement as we celebrate 10 years of Integrative Zoology!
