INTRODUCTION
1.0 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Prison sector is one of the sectors that Nigeria as a country cannot do without just like every other countries in the world. And to appreciate prison as a word, it is a place where people who have been tried and convicted of one crime or the order are kept as a punishment for rehabilitation and reformation. Nigeria has about 227 prison of which Enugu State Command is one of them. The Nigeria prison which started first in the year 1897 during the colonial regime has been around before the gaining of Nigeria independence. Nigeria prison Enugu State Command was one of the earliest prison founded in the year 1918 and has been active with its services till date. Prison is one of the number of sanctions available to the court to deal with those who has been found guilty of any crime or suspected of any. Usually, if an actiniae is suspected of any crime, he or she will remain in the prison custody until he or she is declared innocent or guilty by the magistrate or judge who determine their fate.
The introduction of computer in the prison sector will go a long way in reducing difficulties, complexity and also generate maximum as well as accurate output in the services rendered in this sector, computer and the .uniqueness that comes around it has made a lot of companies, small scale firm and organisation to embrace it of which prison will not be left out. Computerized prison information system will be introduced to envelop the areas of manual operation in the prison section. This idea will not only better the prison officials but also the prisoners themselves to feel comfortable and well organized. The errors in data collection, mistaken identity and time wastage in sorting a file will be addressed and reduced. The introduction of electronics mail (EM) and electronic fund transfer (E.F.T) will also help in funding this sector easily by the government and with all these , there will be an effectiveness and efficiency in the prison sector.
