ABSTRACT

The research was conducted mainly to examine the positive and negatives effects of not making good use of computer in processing surgical operation data and information in the hospital. For effective research on this topic the operation information system. Both primary and secondary data were used to elicit information from sample studied, the primary source of data were response form the personal interview which secondary source form textbook on business management and administration and periodicals. Computerized surgical operation information system is used to record all information need during the operation. The recorded information are stored in the system for effective treatment measure. This project is written to help Hospital especially Madubuike hospital Enugu in the areas they encounter problems in keeping their record and the solution given to tackle those problem.

ORGANIZATION OF WORK

This project work is primarily designed to give an insight to surgical operation Information System.

Chapter one talks about introduction to surgical operation Information System, study of problem and objectives as well as definition of the scope.

Chapter two comprises the literature review. Chapter three gives the detailed information about the existing (old) system, while chapter four and five deals with the design and implantation of new system.

Chapter six document the project work, while chapter seven summaries,  conclusion and suggestions were made.

CHAPTER ONE

1.0  INTRODUCTION

Computerized surgical operation information system is an information system used during and after operation. It is used to collect the vital information needed for the operation. It is also used to document the events that took place during the operation. Because of the vital nature of most operation, computerized surgical operation information system becomes an effective tool in the hand of doctors during operation.

Computerized surgical operation information system uses artificial intelligence and powerful methodology to quickly create very accurate analysis. The software gives you the ability to predict operation by customer, account group, channel, end-item and package. Both weekly and daily analyses are created with lightning speed, instantly updating on the screen.

Surgery is a medical specialty that uses operative manual and instrumental techniques on a patient to investigate and/or treat a pathological condition such as disease or injury, to help improve bodily function or appearance, or sometimes for some other reason. An act of performing surgery may be called a surgical procedure, operation, or simply surgery. In this context, the verb operating means performing surgery. The patient or subject on which the surgery is performed can be a person or an animal. A surgeon is a person who performs operations on patients. Persons described as surgeons are commonly medical practitioners, but the term is also applied to physicians, podiatric physicians, dentists and veterinarians. Surgery can last from minutes to hours, but is typically not an ongoing or periodic type of treatment.

Computerized surgical operation information system of Madubuike hospital shows various information needed before and after operation. It records the events of the operation, the drugs given before operation and the money collected from the parent. It involves database programming to keep track of the event of the system. The program is also implemented using Visual basic program.

  1. STATEMENT OF PROBLEM

Owing to:

  • The difficulties people face in keeping operation information/data.
  • Improper account keeping of surgical items.
  • Difficulties people encountered when searching for given operation information.
  • Time wasted in searching for information on packed files.
  • Time wasted in sorting operation record.
  • Lost recorded because of inadequate preparing.

The need arise for the development of Computerized surgical operation information system for Madubuike hospital.

1.2  AIMS AND OBJECTIVE

The aims and objectives of this project are listed below:

  • To eliminate Poor Analysis and inadequate surgical operation planning
  • To avoid Poor Integration of surgical operation and planning in running of the hospital.
  • To keep a comprehensive list of surgical operation data.
  • To make proper and accurate evaluation.
  • To easy the work associated with manual method of recording surgical operation.
  • To eliminate the error involved with the manual storage of surgical operation.

To save the time wasted when searching or sorting for a given surgical operation data.
