Abstract:

This study employed ground magnetic and geoelectrical resistivity methods to investigate gold mineralization in the Tsoho-Gurusu area of Minna, Niger State. The study area spans from latitudes 09o 37׳ 13״N to 09o 37׳ 28.6״N and longitudes 006o 36׳ 29.4״E to 006o 36׳ 13.1״E, covering a total area of 250,000 m2.Magnetic data  was collected using the Geometric 857AX proton precession magnetometer. Prior to the geophysical survey, geological mapping was conducted to identify surface structural features. The survey involved eleven North-South aligned traverses, each 500 m long and spaced 50 m apart. Measurement stations were positioned East-West, 10 m apart, following the mineral foliation direction.

The acquired magnetic data were processed using the International Geomagnetic Referenced Field, resulting in the residual field. The residual field was then analyzed using Euler and Analytical signal methods. Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) data was collected along two profiles showing anomalously high residual values (-99 to 82 nT) and low Total Magnetic Intensity (TMI) values. The analytical signal analysis revealed both high and low amplitude anomalies, with high amplitude anomalies dominating the study area. The Euler deconvolution analysis indicated depth variations ranging from 8.0 to 25.0 m, while the electrical resistivity method showed depths ranging from 5 to 13.4 m.

Low electrical resistivity values were observed to correlate with high TMI values in an East-West pattern, aligning with the major East-West and Northeast-Southwest fracture patterns identified in the rose diagram and lineament map. These findings suggest that fractures are potential mineralization zones for conductive minerals. Based on 2D electrical resistivity and magnetic data, two possible mineralized zones were identified in the study area. The South Eastern part along the ERT profile exhibited eluvial and primary gold veins, trending in the NE-SW direction, consistent with the general geological formation trend found in the North Eastern part of the study area.

The combination of surface structure pattern, magnetic anomaly pattern, and electrical anomaly pattern indicates the presence of quartz vein and eluvial gold deposits at depths ranging from 5 m to 13.4 m.
