During the fall semester of 1975-76, the German Department of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, in cooperation with the Department of Zoology, offered a series of thirteen lectures in the general area of biology, delivered in German by university scientists on topics relating to their fields of research. It is the purpose of this report to sketch the background work for the project, to convey some notion of the stimulating yet comfortable atmosphere of the lectures, to evaluate their effect upon the language-learning climate of the university, to indicate some of the advantages to the scientific community and members of the public at large, to make suggestions for improvement, and to reveal plans for the future. It will list the materials which were developed in conjunction with the series and are already available for distribution. It might also serve as a fillip to start a similar program at another institution.Â
