ATTITUDE OF COLLEGE STUDENTS TOWARDS NEWS BLOGS (AUN STUDENTS)

Abstract

To find students’ attitudes towards news blogs, convenience sampling method was used to select 175 students of the American University of Nigeria (AUN). These students were surveyed using online questionnaire to ensure quick and easy response and data gathering.The results showed that students read and prefer the entertainment aspect of news blogs and read them mainly to get informed. However, the ones that do not read news blogs prefer to get their information from social media platforms.

Introduction to the Study

Introduction

News media have always been important in informing and keeping people up to date about the happenings in their environment. Nevertheless, news media are in different forms; such as, print news media, online news media and hard-copy news media. News blogs are a form of online news media. Therefore, this research will focus on finding out how valued news blogs are by college students, using the students of the American University of Nigeria (AUN) as the research population.

Most college students tend to have access to the internet and use this for different purposes, such as; social interaction, movies, games, research, and many more. This research aims to find if news is one of those purposes. News has a lot of varieties such as entertainment news, political news, sports news, etc. therefore; this research will be conducted to know what aspect of news interests students the most. This chapter will give insights on the topic therefore; it will contain the research questions, aims, objectives and significance.

Aims of the study

This research aims at finding out how important news blogs are to students, if they even read them at all and which news blogs they read the most.

Research Questions

The research questions are major questions that will serve as the pillars of the entire research. These questions are the major concerns of the researcher and they’ll help bring to light the major objectives of the research.

  • What aspect of news do they value the most?
  • Which is their most preferred news blog?
  • What encourages students to read news on blogs?
  • Where will they rather get their news from?
