Abstract
Environmental impact assessment (EIA) of an irrigation or a water resources project is now required before a project can be approved for development. This chapter therefore discusses environmental aspects of irrigation and water resources development projects. Starting with a brief introduction of the environment and its component, it discusses possible impacts of irrigation projects and then provides a detailed explanation of the EIA process and requirement of statutory clearances. Also described are the data required for an EIA study and relevant questionnaire.
