ABSTRACT

This research project aims to explore strategies for sustaining the teaching and learning of Office Technology and Management (OTM) education in South-West Nigeria tertiary institutions in the new normal era. The study seeks to identify the challenges faced by educators and students in adapting to the new normal, examine effective teaching and learning approaches, and propose strategies for ensuring the continuity and quality of OTM education in the face of ongoing disruptions.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, incorporating surveys, interviews, and classroom observations. The research objectives include identifying the challenges encountered in transitioning to the new normal in OTM education, exploring effective teaching and learning approaches, assessing the technological infrastructure and resources available to support remote and blended learning, and proposing strategies for sustaining the delivery of OTM education in the new normal era.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the strategies for sustaining the teaching and learning of OTM education in the new normal era. The research will identify the challenges faced by educators and students in adapting to remote and blended learning, such as limited access to technology, inadequate internet connectivity, lack of training in online teaching methodologies, and difficulties in practical skill development. Additionally, the research will explore effective teaching and learning approaches, including the use of learning management systems, video conferencing tools, virtual simulations, and collaborative online platforms. Furthermore, the research will assess the technological infrastructure and resources available in South-West Nigeria tertiary institutions to support remote and blended learning, considering factors such as access to devices, internet connectivity, software applications, and technical support. Based on the findings, strategies will be proposed to sustain the delivery of OTM education, encompassing faculty development programs, curriculum adaptation, student support services, and partnerships with industry stakeholders.

The implications of this research extend to OTM educators, curriculum developers, educational policymakers, and students. The findings will inform educators about the challenges and effective approaches in adapting to the new normal in OTM education, guiding them in their instructional practices. Curriculum developers can utilize the research findings to adapt the OTM curriculum to align with the demands of remote and blended learning. Educational policymakers can consider the implications of the research when formulating policies and initiatives that support the sustainability of OTM education in the new normal era. Students can benefit from the research findings by understanding the challenges and opportunities associated with remote and blended learning and actively participating in their educational journey
