ABSTRACT

This research project aims to identify teaching strategies considered suitable for enhancing skill acquisition among Office Technology and Management (OTM) students in Benue State Polytechnic, Nigeria. As the demands of the workplace continue to evolve, it is crucial to employ effective teaching strategies that promote skill acquisition and prepare OTM students for the challenges of their future careers. This study seeks to identify the teaching strategies perceived as suitable for enhancing skill acquisition, explore the perceptions of both students and educators towards these strategies, examine the current state of teaching practices in OTM programs, and propose recommendations for improving teaching strategies to enhance skill acquisition among OTM students.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, utilizing surveys, interviews, and classroom observations to collect data from OTM students and educators in Benue State Polytechnic. The research objectives include identifying teaching strategies suitable for enhancing skill acquisition, exploring perceptions towards these strategies, assessing the current state of teaching practices, and proposing recommendations for improving teaching strategies.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into teaching strategies suitable for enhancing skill acquisition among OTM students. The research will identify the teaching strategies perceived as effective, such as experiential learning, project-based learning, case studies, group work, simulations, and the integration of technology in instruction. Additionally, the study will explore the perceptions of both students and educators towards these strategies, considering their effectiveness, feasibility, and potential for skill development. Furthermore, the research will assess the current state of teaching practices in OTM programs, examining the extent to which these strategies are employed and their integration into the curriculum. Based on the findings, recommendations will be proposed for improving teaching strategies, including faculty development, curriculum enhancement, instructional resource provision, and collaboration with industry partners.

The implications of this research extend to OTM students, educators, administrators, and policymakers. The findings will provide OTM students with insights into effective teaching strategies that promote skill acquisition, guiding their learning efforts and fostering their professional development. Educators can utilize the research findings to inform their instructional practices, incorporating suitable teaching strategies that enhance skill acquisition among OTM students. Administrators can consider the recommendations proposed in the research to improve the teaching and learning environment, supporting faculty development and providing necessary resources. Policymakers can utilize the findings to inform policies and initiatives that promote effective teaching strategies in OTM programs, ensuring that skill acquisition is prioritized in the curriculum.

In conclusion, this research project identifies teaching strategies considered suitable for enhancing skill acquisition among OTM students in Benue State Polytechnic. By understanding these strategies, exploring perceptions, assessing current teaching practices, and proposing recommendations, stakeholders can work towards improving teaching strategies and enhancing skill acquisition among OTM students
