ABSTRACT

This study was carried out to ascertain the influence of gratifications on Journalism practice a survey of journalist in Uyo. The objectives of the study were to determine whether or not journalists in Uyo gratification as requirement to discharge their duties, to ascertain the ways of gratification journalists in Uyo are exposed in the performance of their duties, to ascertain if acceptance of gratification influence journalist in Uyo in the discharge, to identify factor responsible for this practice of gratification among journalists in Uyo. The survey method was used for the selection of a sample technique was used for the selection of a sample from the population. A sample of 250 was used to obtain the information needed. The instrument for the data collection was questionnaire. The data obtained were coded and converted into percentage through the use of frequency table. Going by the reeled of the research, the study revealed that journalists receive gratification because of poor salary. Therefore, the study recommended that the government should help provide good salary and life insurance to the journalist.

    As a profession that serves the interest of the public. Journalist has degree responsibilities in the society. Every day, journalist face challenges that test their ethical values and responsibility to truth telling despite professional code of ethics, journalist may violates the rules by accepting bribes white covering news or features. this is some cases lowers the journalists credibility and undermines a professional career. corruption is dangerous to society and can be extremely devastating to media.
