ABSTRACT
Epidermal studies of Ipomoea batatas were studied. Aim is to know the diagnostic feature of Ipomoea batatas. Leaves were collected from University of Uyo, Town Campus. The length and width of epidermal and the stomatal length and width were taken for both adaxial and abaxial surfaces. The epidermal cell type of the species were irregular and undulate. The trichomes were absent on both surfaces. Stomata was amphistomatic, anisocytic and paracytic type of stomata was observed on abaxial surface while paracytic stomata was observed on adaxial surface. The species can distinguished by the type of stomata and variation in stomatal length, there were similarities based on stomata development between abaxial and adaxial surfaces.
