ABSTRACT

This research project aims to assess the participation of multinational corporations in the development of entrepreneurship education in university business education programmes in Ondo State, Nigeria. Entrepreneurship education plays a crucial role in equipping students with the skills and knowledge necessary for entrepreneurial success. The involvement of multinational corporations in entrepreneurship education can bring valuable resources, expertise, and industry insights to enhance the effectiveness of these programs. This study seeks to evaluate the extent of participation of multinational corporations in the development of entrepreneurship education, identify the types of support provided, examine the perceived benefits and challenges, and propose recommendations for strengthening collaboration between multinational corporations and universities.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, utilizing surveys, interviews, and document analysis to collect data from university administrators, faculty members, students, and representatives of multinational corporations operating in Ondo State. The research objectives include assessing the extent of participation of multinational corporations, identifying the types of support provided, exploring the perceived benefits and challenges, and proposing recommendations for enhancing collaboration.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the participation of multinational corporations in the development of entrepreneurship education in university business education programmes. The research will assess the level of engagement of multinational corporations, including their involvement in curriculum development, guest lectures, mentorship programs, funding initiatives, and partnerships with universities. It will identify the types of support provided by multinational corporations, such as financial resources, expertise sharing, access to industry networks, and opportunities for internships and experiential learning. Additionally, the study will examine the perceived benefits of collaboration, including enhanced student learning outcomes, increased employability, industry relevance of curricula, and knowledge transfer from industry to academia. Furthermore, the research will explore the challenges faced in engaging multinational corporations, such as limited awareness of opportunities, mismatched expectations between academia and industry, administrative barriers, and resource constraints. The study will also propose recommendations for strengthening collaboration, including establishing formal partnerships, fostering regular communication channels, conducting needs assessments, and providing incentives for multinational corporations to participate actively.

The implications of this research extend to university administrators, faculty members, students, multinational corporations, and policymakers. The findings will provide insights to university administrators and faculty members on the current level of participation of multinational corporations, enabling them to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to enhance collaboration. Students can benefit from the research findings by gaining access to valuable resources, industry insights, and networking opportunities that can enhance their entrepreneurial skills and employability. Multinational corporations can utilize the research findings to understand the benefits and challenges associated with engaging in entrepreneurship education and make informed decisions about their involvement. Policymakers can leverage the research findings to inform policies and initiatives that promote and incentivize collaboration between multinational corporations and universities in entrepreneurship education.
